Loisel's Story (3rd Person)

Loisel is a Product Designer, Communications Manager, and Artist living in Toronto... with roots in the Philippines and education in Hong Kong. Her career has been shaped by a deep curiosity about people and a drive to make meaningful impact across education, design, and community building.

With a decade of experience teaching and managing in multinational classrooms, She has developed a strong foundation in empathy, communication, and cultural fluency. These skills now fuel her work in UX, where she specializes in research, project management, content strategy, and product development. She's worked with ed-tech startups, community nonprofits, and co-founded Quiri, a platform designed to foster respectful, curiosity-driven online 1-1 dialogue.

Outside of design, She's led social programs at language schools, translated for documentary films, and supported youth, newcomers, and sustainability initiatives through volunteer work. She's currently launching a community-building toolkit at Village and growing engagement at TechTank, while continuing to develop her own learning and business model for a project called Englicious, teaching ESL through experiencial learning.

Whether it’s through art, design, or education, Her work is grounded in understanding humans deeply and helping them connect, learn, and thrive.

FUN FACTS

☀️ My name 'Loisel', can be scrambled to make the word "Soleil", which in French means sun, hence my brand - I naturally shed guiding rays of sunshine.
⛰️I was born in a remote valley in the north of the Philippines and speak my mother's tongue, a native language called Ilocano.
📝 Along with my other (apparently not enough) roles, I am also an English Writing Test Rater for a Canadian Test Provider rating the English of Canadian newcomers. The details of this is hush hush though. 🤫
♟️I have this sustained passion to play chess everyday and desire to get to at least an ELO of 1800.
🎸My son is some kind of musical genius and plays drums, keyboard, cello, electric guitar and ukulele. He's 7.
🫂 I formally studied Psychology for 8 years (in my IB High School and University for my undergrad). Informally, my whole life.
🏫 I was the co-chair of my son's school council for 1.5 years during a very polarized, and destabilized time. I facilitated school council meetings with school board, teachers, admin and parents eventually writing the School Statement of Needs that helped hire the current principal who turned the entire school culture around.
👨🏼 My life partner is also my business partner/co-founder of Quiri (quiri.io) and we are going to launch our V1 this year! Watch out world!
